MTIM-the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri-provides education and support for Missouri Massage and Healing Arts Therapists through healthy, Green-conscious classrooms and events.

From our previous 600-hour Massage Therapy program to our Continuing Education classes, MTIM is WHERE PROFESSIONALS GROW. SORRY, BUT MTIM IS NOT CURRENTLY PROVIDING CORE EDUCATION, ONLY CONTINUING EDUCATION!

MTIM began in Autumn of 1993 as a membership organization, and formed study groups for the existing therapists in the Mid-Missouri area who wanted to sit for the newly-developed National Certification Exam. In the absence of state licensure, certification provided an assurance of standards for massage consumers.

Mirra Greenway and Esteban Ruvalcaba were among the first Missouri massage therapists to pass the exam. Local interest was so high that they chose to continue offering classes, and soon developed a curriculum for an introductory 500-hour program. Regional therapists were recruited to share their areas of expertise as members of a teaching pool.

The original curriculum was designed to exactly reflect the requirements of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. These standards remain the foundation of our current 600-hour program, and the MTIM curriculum maintains a solid reputation for preparing our students for the National Certification Exam.

In January 2001, in large part to the dedication of Esteban Ruvalcaba, LMT, NCTMB, our state licensing law went into effect. Our members and other massage therapists could no longer practice without completing a minimum 500-hour program. MTIM became certified to operate as a Proprietary School by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education, and increased its scope.

In 2003, Mirra Greenway, BS, LMT, NCTMB assumed sole ownership of MTIM, LLC, and established an administrative structure with an Advisory Board.

In 2005, we increased our program to 600 hours while maintaining the year-long, part-time schedule. Reflecting changes in the National Board requirements, we enhanced our science program and distributed the additional hours throughout our curriculum.

In 2006, The Greenway Massage TEAM opened as a professional Clinic for our graduates who want to pursue a career in Clinical and Sports massage in an environment utilizing organic supplies and green business practices. Now the TEAM is available for office visits and events for your organization.

In 2007, we were approved as Continuing Education Providers (#450530-07) by the NCBTMB. See our REGULATORY INFORMATION page for more information on the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

In the Autumn of 2008, we expanded into a larger location, still in Downtown Columbia, across from the Wabash Station, at 201 N. 10th Street, on the corner of Ash & Tenth, in the former "Crazy Music" building.

In March 2011, the downtown SCHOOL was closed in favor of using our numerous extension sites.  We offer CONTINUING EDUCATION ONLY classes in a retreat-style setting at Singing Waters in Moniteau Co, MO, the herb farm of Celestial Body in Boonville, MO, and two completely accessible locations in Columbia, MO-the chiropractic office of Kim Fite, DC,  and the home practice of Katrina Fairchild, LMT.

The school's mailing address is: 2000 E Broadway, PMB # 121, Columbia, MO 65201. Previous students may contact this address for transcript copies or letters of reference.  See our FaceBook group, Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri and Friends, if you are an Alumni.

Located in the lush confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, Columbia, Missouri is a green community offering many outdoor recreational opportunities. With the University of Missouri and three colleges, the city maintains a diverse population brimming with activities.
