Well-established professionals from the Mid-Missouri area are regularly featured as teachers in our Continuing Education workshops.

Occasionally, nationally and internationally-known instructors are invited to the Institute.

Missouri massage therapists arerequired to renew licenses by January 31, every 2 years.  2011 was the end of a licensing cycle.  That means you must complete at least 12 hours by the end of 2013.  If you are Nationally-Certified, that renewal date will be determined by the date of your original certification, and you are required to complete 48 hours every 4 years.  Please see sidebar to the right for more information. 

In October of 2007, we were approved as a Continuing Education provider by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, Provider #450530-07.

Continuing Education classes will be provided under the new name of Greenways Wellness Education.  Classes will be posted on our calendar. Just click on the left, or email us if you would like to take or TEACH a class that we do not offer.

MTIM may co-contract with various professionals around the area to teach. We are open to all disciplines, from Sportsmassage to Shiatsu, Reiki to Hakomi, or Dual-Role Ethics to Native American Ways. If NCBTMB requirements are met, their courses will be available under our approval.

We have a wealth of potential instructors throughout Missouri. We would like to hear from you if you are ready to share your knowledge and experience. Courses may be scheduled at our recently-expanded facility, or in your own area. Let us share our resources to help you get out there and share your wisdom!



 




Among our regular offerings, we host Body Mechanics Makeover, Functional Goal-setting and Treatment Planning for Balanced Bodies, with Mirra Greenway, Owner/director of Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri.  

Ethics: Standard V, Dual Roles & Boundaries, will be held on a recurring basis.  Mirra Greenway & Sharon Troth will teach.   3 hours/$45 each class

Aromatherapy and Herbology classes are available in the Boonville area by Ann Starr Harmon of www.celestialbody.com, along with her Missouri-grown herbal body care line.

Ongoing classes in Traditional Chinese Medicine/Five-Element Theory and Practice are provided by Kim Fite, D.C.  This Eastern system of Physiology ncludes hands-on use of muscle testing for overall balance.

They are open to students for both CE and non-CE, but CE credit classes are priced at a higher rate, $250 vs. $125.  She also offers a discounted "reviewer rate"; after completing her class 3 times, there is no charge! A book is required for $27, available from Doc Kim.

Reflexology series are taught by Doireann O'Brien OR DeBorah Bond, Certified Reflexologist.

Mirra Greenway, BS, LMT, NCTMB is available for individual mentoring and internships, consulting, and teaching Case Study Documentation & Treatment Planning.

 

Missouri Continuing Education Requirements:

  • LICENSING is State and CERTIFICATION is National; neither board can assist with the other's issues 
  • NCBTMB, the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, no longer recognizes "Category A/B" courses
  • Courses are either "Approved" or "Not Approved"
  • Look for courses that are approved and have received a Provider number
  • MTIM's Provider #450530-07
  • Every 4-year period must include a minimum of 48 approved hours
  • Six of these hours must be in Ethics;
  • two of these be specifically related to Standard V, "Dual Roles & Boundaries"
  • You may be able to subsitute teaching, published articles or books, etc, for your CE Hours
  • Your recertification period depends upon your initial date of certification
  • The Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage requires 12 hours for every 2-year period, ending on January 31 in odd-numbered years
  • Your earned hours may count toward both the State and National requirements
  • CPR & UP are no longer required
  • You are responsible for notifying both agencies if you have a change of address; 30 days' notice is required if you have a State Massage Business license
  • If you take the MBLEX instead of the NCETMB, you  are not required to take any CE's over and above the Missouri state requirement of 12 hrs every 2 years
